Greening action on the Brodina river

Because they care! Sucevan eco-students together with Electromagnetica garbage collectors gathered waste in Valea Brodina

October 6, 2012

Eighth grade students from the Suceava commune, Brodina, demonstrated that they care about nature. In an action initiated and supported by Electromagnetica, one of the most important producers of electricity from renewable hydro sources, telemanagement systems of electricity and LED lighting, almost 50 students collected garbage and waste from an area located in the immediate vicinity of the microhydropower plants on the Brodina valley that the company owns and operates. And if we consider that a single Romanian produces around 800 kg of household waste annually, of which, according to statistics, a rather large amount remains uncollected, such actions are always welcome. Especially since our country has to achieve strict objectives imposed by the European Union regarding the collection and recycling of the waste it generates.

The road to the micro-hydro plants was not boring at all. When boarding the bus, each student received a presentation about the history of the Brodina commune, about Electromagnetics, as well as useful information about energy, the environment, renewable energy and microhydropower plants. From the materials provided and the discussions with Electromagnetica representatives, the students learned new things about the history of the place where they were born and live, about the energy without which they could not turn on the light bulb or the TV at home, about how you can get this energy and from the power of water and about one of the Romanian companies that produces this type of energy – Electromagnetica. But they best understood what it was about on the spot. Arriving at the microhydropower plants and under the supervision of the operating staff, the students were presented with their understanding of what a microhydropower plant means, how it works and what the day-to-day activity of such a unit consists of. Those who were attentive and knew how to answer the general culture questions were rewarded with prizes consisting of books, dictionaries and atlases. After the competition, the students, equipped with gloves, bags, caps and t-shirts, collected the garbage and waste from the Brodina river downstream.

The action is part of a series of initiatives by Electromagnetica in the area, aimed at providing pupils with lessons in energy education and at the same time instilling in them respect for the environment. This second action took place shortly after Electromagnetica was with almost a hundred first-grade students from the localities of Brodina, Falcău, Sadău, Brodina de Jos and the springs of Suceva at the beginning of the school year, offering them supplies. To be continued!
